MAGAZINE: The
British Racehorse
The British
Racehorse was a superb publication appearing first in 1949 and
continuing until 1980, thereafter becoming The European Racehorse.
The list of contributors reads like a veritable who's who of great
theorists, pedigree analysts and historians of the thoroughbred:
David Livingstone-Learmonth, Peter Willett, Franco Varola, John
Hislop, Charles Leicester, Vincent Orchard, Madame Vuillier, J.A.
Allen, John Aiscan, Alexander Mackay-Smith and others. Each cover
features a notable painting of the thoroughbred, and articles about
artists were a regular feature, by writers such as Stella Walker and
Adrian Bury. Coverage of the best runners of the time with superior
conformation photos of each in the 50's and 60's, articles included
notable stud farms, breeding theory, and the history and development
of sire lines in all major racing countries, as well some more
obscure. Many many contemporary and historical conformation photos
of mares, stallions and racehorses which you will not find
elsewhere. A tremendous source of information.
