Horse Breeding in Ireland

Horse Breeding in Ireland and the role of the Royal Dublin Society's Horse Breeding Schemes 1886-1903
Colin Lewis, 1980, hardcover w/dustjacket, 232 pgs., b/w photos, tables.

Considered a standard work on the history of the Irish Halfbred from the end of the nineteenth century to 1980. "At the end of the 19th century nearly 40000 horses were exported annually from Ireland…..[the South of Ireland was] the chief mart in the world for high class horses for both riding and driving purposes. These horses are almost entirely the produce of thoroughbred sires, or of halfbred sires of the hunter type."
