| Quantitative Studies on
Conformation and Trotting Gaits in the Swedish Warmblood Riding Horse
Mikael Holmstrom. 1994. Softcover., approx 108 pgs. Did you know that the "freedom of the shoulders" is, in fact, the degree of flexion in the elbow joint? That the trot is really a four beat gait - a well balanced horse reaches the ground with his hind hoof first? Or that most determinants for performance can be analyzed at 6 to 8 months of age? This title is the compilation of a series of scientific papers on the aspects of conformation and movement important to the quality of gaits and ability of Grand Prix dressage horses, deduced from high speed video (at 250-500 frames per second - the human eye is capable of approx. 18 frames per second!). Particular emphasis is placed on how this data relates to the selection of young horses for upper-level dressage. These studies seem to be responsible for changes evident in the selections/inspections of warmblood horses throughout Europe! Recommended only if you are able to read scientific studies. |
